International Conference for Arts in Healthcare in Nashville |
|
Wednesday, 02 May 2007 |
|
I was delighted to accept the invitation to present a paper entitled Bridging The Gap at the International Conference on Arts and Healthcare in Nashville, Tennessee. My paper explored using storying telling and song to engage individuals and communities who may through circumstance of culture, economic circumstances, history or geography feel disconnected or isolated. This was used to parallel the individual whose health status can also result in a feeling of isolation and how having their story ratified and giving meaning by having it retold through story and song contributes to both social and emotional health. I was delighted that my presentation was extremely well received and I look forward to future projects that may result from my visit to Nashville.

Arts in Society Conference - Edinburgh |
|
Friday, 26 January 2007 |
|
I had a great time at the conference in
Edinburgh, meeting some lovely and interesting people and attending a
number of workshops well outside my usual fields which was both
challenging and inspiring.
My presentation on the Engaging
Communities – the Small Town Big Picture Project was very well
received with several people making enquiries about my availability
to present at other conferences around the world in 2007 which is a
very exciting prospect. I also had the opportunity to catch up with
friends who were presenting shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and see a
number of other works.
This was my first visit to Edinburgh since
Crusade was performed there in 2000 and it was great to be reminded
that Edinburgh, a beautiful city at any time, is an absolute blast
during the Festival!
